born and raised in los angeles, ca, chris oldaker began studying art, music, and performance at a young age. he developed an interest in comics in the early 1990s, which led to the creation of his first comic project at the age of 15. Partnering with one of his high school friends, they developed the concepts, plots, and designs for an original sci-fi story with aliens, mechs, terrorism, and religious mythology. his friend would pen the script, he would handle the art, and his friend would color it on his state-of-the-art Macintosh computer with a 16MB hard drive. unfortunately, they never even finished the first issue, but the passion remained.
attending the California college of the arts in 1999, he studied painting/drawing, film, and writing.
